Background • God of wind • Lives on a floating island near Sicily called Aeolia where he kept the winds in a cave • Son of Hellen and the nymph Orseis • Had 6 sons and 6 daughters
Myth • Gave a leather bag to Odysseus that had the wind that would keep him from sailing home • Sailors thought it was treasure and opened it, releasing all the wind • Took a very long time for Odysseus to get home to his wife due to the weather
Conclusion • Aeolus’s purpose was to control the wind that could create storms and keep men from coming home after a battle
