Higher Apprenticeships theme • Apprenticeships funding to be used to support • Business growth & success • Opportunities for young people • Light-touch internal & external consultation • Recognition of the importance of Higher Apprenticeships - looking to bolster provision • Agreed to focus on Higher Apprenticeships – recognise there are some challenges!

  4. WSCC 18-24 Higher Apprenticeship Grant Scheme • Up to £150K available in initial phase • Target minimum 50 new Higher Apprentices • Aiming to raise the profile of Higher Apprenticeships & incentivise employers • Consultation with training providers has provided us with a current picture

  5. Where are we now? • Higher Apprenticeships nationally • Higher Apprenticeships and West Sussex • Current provision • Planned provision

  6. Scheme Guidance • Who can apply? • Small, medium & large organisations • Based in West Sussex & paying business rates in the County • Some extra requirements for large employers • Under 9 employees? • How much is the grant? • £2500 per grant • Max four grants per employer

  7. Scheme Process • Employer application (with support from training providers!) • Decision within 10 days • Four months to recruit Higher Apprentice • Payment after 13 weeks from Higher Apprentice start date

  10. WSCC/NAS Communications & Promotion Initial promotion via: • Business networks, Chambers, FSB • Key partners (e.g. District & Boroughs) • WSCC departments/suppliers • Press releases, Twitter, LinkedIn, Web adverts etc.

  11. Communications & Promotion • NAS: Working with local areas to promote the grant to encourage the uptake of the Higher Apprenticeship • Sector Skills Councils • Targeted promotion depending on uptake • Training providers

  12. Training providers’ role? • Important role in promoting the grants • Additional sales tool • Can be used alongside NAS AGE for first time buyers: a total of £4,000 for new employers! • So how can you help us promote? • Please complete the template and submit this to us today
