What roles do organisms play in a food web? • Producers • Create their own food using sun’s energy • Start energy flow • Consumers • Eat other organisms to get their energy • Herbivores, Omnivores, Carnivores • Decomposers • Break down dead plants, animals, and waste and return nutrients to the ecosystem

  3. What is a food chain? • Show how living things get their energy • It is linear. • The arrow represents energy.

  4. How is a food web organized? • Show how energy moves through a community • Made up of food chains • Producers are at the base and top consumers are at the top
