  5. HyLighter System for Learning, Assessment, and Document-Centered Group Work • HyLighter is an embodiment of certain conjectures about how people learn and work together in productive ways. • Data from the field (i.e., both from research and practical use) feeds a continuous development cycle.

Knowledge elicitation or explanation: connect to prior knowledge and reveal what you know. “After reading the essay below, select a response to each question by highlighting the entire answer. Write down a clear explanation of why you made each selection.” • TYPE 2. Knowledge tracing or thought report: reveal how you think. “After reading the essay below, select a response to each question. Immediately write down the sequence of steps you went through in your head in selecting your answer. Do not summarize. Describe in detail the actual thoughts you were having at each step.”
