Upheaval and Subsidence applied to Niagara--1845 • Denudation of older stratified rock (remain horizontal and undisturbed): Nos. 1-10 inclusive • Beds slowly raised—cliffs form at successive heights: No 10 and 8 • Entire region submerged • Country buried under sand, gravel, and erratic blocks • Re-emergence slow and gradual—ridges and terraces are interruptions • Falls originate at Queenstown—uppermost limestone and shale exposed: No 7 and 8
