RB45 - provoked quench at 9.5 kA • Quench provoked in B17R4 • 4 magnets quenched after quench propagation • Sequence of events:
RB45 - provoked quench at 9.5 kA Quench Detection • Quench detection performed very well
RB45 - provoked quench at 9.5 kA Magnet Protection • All quench heaters were fired correctly
RB45 – first training quench at 9789 A • Natural quench in C27L5 • 3 magnets quenched (2 after quench propagation) • Sequence of events:
First training quench in RB45 Trying to recover….
RB45 – second training quench at 9859 A • Natural quench in A22R4 • 3 magnets quenched (2 after quench propagation) • Sequence of events:
RB45 – second training quench at 9859 A 20 ms to reach voltage threshold 230 ms to reach voltage threshold 700 ms to reach voltage threshold >1 s to reach voltage threshold
First conclusions • During the first three high current quenches performed in RB45 all individual systems performed very well. • During the first two quenches (9500 A and 9789 A) the quench propagation between “A” and “B” magnets was observed to be unexpectedly fast. • During the last high current quench (9859 A) a “good” magnet quenched. Is this worrying? We’ll see with the next one……
