Impressions of Haaslava • People have been friendly and helpful. • Not all can be reached by phone, because some don’t want to talk to strangers. • All showed up for interviews. • Arranging meetings and talking to people has been relativly easy and pleasent.
Key persons: Leader group of Development plan • Priit Lomp – municipal leader. Recently became a municipal leader. Is in charge of whole procces and specifically of business and tourism topics. • Anne Lõssenko – former head of local kindergarden. In charge of educational, demographical, healthcare and social assistance topics • Kristjan Jansen – a member of council. In charge of culture and spare time topics • Jüri Raudseping – former municipal leader . Currently economical and environmental advicer. Gives advice to current municipal leader. In charge of infrasructure, environmental and tourism topics. • Harras Tiisler – local constable.In charge of public safety and lifeseving service topics. • Heiki Tooming – adviser of land and building. Is in charge of real estate and building related topics.
Strategical problems • Few kids at school • Youthcenter • Unemployment • Passive people • Advertasing strenghts
Few kids at school • School and kindergarten were joined and a new headmaster has just been elected. • New sportsbuilding, renovated houses. • Preschool class will be in schoolhouse. • Some other solutions:- to focus on some field (special sportsclasses, natureclasses)- to work on school reputation (information in local paper, have tours for parents)- personal approach to kids (more flexibilily)
Youthcenter • Currently there’s no indoors place and not even many events for young people. • Hanging out near bus stop, making trouble. • Need for events that would be interesting for youth. • Arrange youthcamps or some work for summer.
Unemployment • Many people have been unemployed for a while. • Leads to social problems (passive people, depression, economical difficulties, alcholosim) • Some solutions:- supportgroups- helping people to get retraining- try to include them in public life (activities, responsibilities)
Passive people • Not attending local events. • Active and successful people aren’t involved in local life. • Needs personal approach, preferrably with specific ideas or projects. • Need for village societies to get closer to people to create a community. • Should use young and active people.
Advertasing strenghts • Public information about local enterprise • Local sights: Vooremägi, Aardlapalu birdwatching area, Estonian Aviation museum. • Work on tourism: - Put up signs.- Clearing from bushis.- Should be more easelly accessable.- Advertise (events, stories in local paper, pictures and information on municipality homepage)
