Personal Health Improvement Program - Goals • Promote personal accountability for managing health status • Help people with chronic disease manage their health • Ultimately reduce our costs • Put off or avoid the big event • Prevent problems instead of just fixing them • Follow the $- healthy people don’t cost as much – sick people cost more • Keep healthy people healthy • Prevention and good health is our best option to reduce costs over the long haul
Personal Health Improvement Programthru “It’s Your Life” • Includes: • Health Risk Appraisals • Health screenings • Personal coaching sessions 2 -6 times per year • Health education (healthy eating, fitness) • On-site Fitness Room • Tobacco Cessation Program- dropped to 0%
Linking Wellness to Benefits Plan • Incentives: • Prior to 2006, premium discounts • 2006-present, part of our benefit plan • Savings of $ 500 per year for single employee and $1000 per year for family. • Individualized, confidential, goal setting • Strong leadership from upper management • Spouses are part of the program
Environment Changes • Eliminated vending machines and added a refrigerator for employees to bring their own items; • On-site Fitness Room • Began providing fruits and vegetables in 2000; • Tobacco Free Company Property Wide since 2006; • Factory air and noise quality audits
Education is part of Culture • Hiring Process • New employee education: required class for any employee and spouse who takes our benefit plan. • Individual meetings prior to open enrollment • Company wide meetings • Health promotion education classes
