Literature: Wednesday, November 14, 2012 Handouts: * None—we will use the Lit text, pp. 53 – 56 Homework: * Read an AR book 20 – 30 minutes daily & record on chart * Lit book p. 56 [Time will be provided in class, but you may have to finish this two-part activity at home] 1) Test Practice, questions #1 – 5 2) Constructed Response, #1 – 3 #1 [Title, sub-title, and 6 headings] #2 A three-part answer (Label them as A, B, C) #3 A one-sentence answer Assignments Due: * Are you keeping up on your AR Reading Chart?

  2. Today’s Goal: Learn how to analyze the structure and purpose of a magazine article. Outcomes: Describe what is meant by “text features.” Name and identify 14 different text features. Apply your knowledge by identifying where to find specific types of info.

  3. Starter #1: What are text features? Text features are any elements in printed work (including websites) that help the reader gain a better understanding of information. Can you name some text features? Titles, headings, graphics, captions, maps, charts, index, glossary, table of contents Today we are going to analyze a magazine article. By using the article’s text features, we can: 1. Determine the purpose for the article 2. Gain a better understanding of the information it provides. Let’s turn to p. 53 in our Lit text.
