Review Questions • What is an ion? • At atom or group of atoms that has lost or gained one or more electrons and has a negative or positive charge. • What is a network? • A netlike combination of lines or passages
Compound Structures • Compounds with network structures are strong solids
Ionic Compounds • These are networks of bonded ions. There are usually two different ions. Each of the ions are oppositely charged. Remember oppositely charged particles are attracted to one another • Common Examples: NaCl (table salt), NaClO (Chlorine Bleach)
Compounds made of Molecules • Many molecules do not form solids, because the bonds of the molecule are not strongly attracted to other molecules • Therefore, because the molecules of O2 (oxygen) are not very attracted to one another and form gases.
