Qin Dynasty 221 – 206 BC • In 221 BC, a leader united China and started the QIN dynasty • The Qin (CHIN) empire was very strict but powerful
QIN ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Accomplishments: • Created laws that applied to everyone in China • New system of money • United China with roads • Built the GREAT WALL OF CHINA on the Northern border
HAN Dynasty 205 BC – 220 AD • Liu Bang was a poor farmer who became the first leader of this dynasty • He was well liked by both the rich and poor • Han emperors made the government stronger by: • Raising taxes • Creating schools to prepare people for government jobs • Controlled the economy

Tang Dynasty 618 AD • Control East and South Asia • ‘golden age’ • Improved the military to make it stronger • Built huge cities • Empress Wu: first female empress in China
Song Dynasty 960 – 1279 AD • Built a strong government with many leaders • Invented many new goods and ideas • Built huge trade routes across the East

Analects Sayings from Confucius • A book of sayings collected by his followers • This is a primary document because they help us understand what Confucius believed and are directly from him! • His sayings teach positive behaviors
Filial Piety RESPECT YOUR FAMILY • This is the respect which children owe to parents • …and wives owe to husbands • sisters to brothers • and everyone to ancestors • When this respect is taught at home, it is supposed to carry over into society and government as well
