OUR GOALS: A London Games - best ever with regards to accessibility and inclusive design Inclusive Design not an end in itself Barrier free environment as a basic requirement, supported by complimentary services Show that Accessibility & Equality is NOT about treating everybody in the same way Provide for disabled spectators, disabled VIP’s, staff, disabled members of the media

  4. VENUES FOR EVERYONE - ACCESSIBILITY Wheelchair spaces 1% of nett Companion seats Elevated positions Plentiful toilets Changing Places toilet Faith provision Assistance Dog Spending Areas Sports presentation Induction loops Easy access seats Family friendly facilities Access all areas

  5. Wheelchair space - Companion seat included Standard seat - Down fewest steps; End of a row; video screen; Close to the action TICKETING A ticketing process which was inclusive. A highly accessible website. Disabled people applied for tickets like anyone else Chose the ticket they needed No intrusive questions No insisting on proof of disability

  6. TICKETCARE Scheme for those who do not need a wheelchair space but cannot come to the Games without a personal assistant. Once they received tickets they could then apply for an additional free P.A. ticket. We met every single request.

GAMES MOBILITY • GamesMobility - a personal service: • Free loan of wheelchairs • Free loan of power chairs • Sighted guiding service • Electric golf buggy transport • Assistance all the way • to your seat and back again Used by older people, pregnant women those with temporary ailments and injuries. Contributed hugely to our accessibility work. 84% of spectators gave accessibility 9 out of 10.

  9. The Way Ahead • The UK delivered a highly inclusive Olympic & Paralympic Games • Very accessible venues • Must develop innovative services • Sochi is taking GIANT steps • We must all learn from each other and be neither impatient nor complacent
