They have won 2,118 medals. • 2.How many medals have New Zealand won? • They have won 90 medals so far. • 3.Why do they need the Olympic torch? • The Olympic torch is a symbol of the Olympic games. Commemorating the theft of fire from the Greek God Zeus, by Prometheus. • 4.How long have the Olympics been going on? • They’ve been going on for over 150 years. • 5.Why do they need the Olympic mascot? • They are used to represent their country.

Lisa Carrington • Lisa Carrington is a New Zealander. She represented New Zealand in the 2012 London Olympics. She is a New Zealand flat-water canoer. She was born in 1989 23rd of June. She won Gold in the women’s K-1 200 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She is a gold medallist in the Olympics. And in 2011 she won the canoe sprint World Championships. • Lisa Carrington is coached by Gordon Walker. Canoeing in June 2009, she won a bronze medal at the World Championships regatta. In May 2012, the pair won the gold medal in the same event at a World Cup regatta in Vichy, France. Carrington and Hatton won three gold medals at the 2010 Oceania Canoe Championships. They won the 500 and 1000 metres K-1 events. • At the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, Carrington won the gold medal in the women’s K-1 200 metres event ; and became the first New Zealand women to win a canoeing World Championship title. Lisa Carrington was honoured with the Maori Senior Sports Women of the year award. • Lisa Carrington has made New Zealand proud with her gold medal. She came 7th place in the K-2 500 metres.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is an athlete at the Olympics. She is a female, and she is 25 years old. She comes from Kingston in Jamaica. She is 152 cm tall. She weighs 57 kg, and was born on the 27th of December 1986. She went to the University of Technology in Kingston. She was in a club called Maximising Velocity and Power. It is a track and field club. She is coached by Stephen Francis. Her mother was also a sprinter, and a long jumper. She has a husband named Jason Pryce. Shelly-Ann stopped training for four weeks, because of an incident in April 2009. She suffered a hamstring injury in 2009. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won 1 gold, and 2 silver medals. She is a sprinter at the Olympics. She has won many medals in the Olympics with friends like Veronica Campbell-Brown. Shelly-Ann and her team has made Jamaica very proud.
