Types of Report • Laboratory • Technical • Employee feedback • Management
Laboratory Report • Provides facts without any interpretation • Most national standard monitoring methods follow this approach • Not useful for communicating outcomes of workplace assessments • Useful in evaluating workplace exposures
Technical Report • Very detailed usually containing • Executive summary • Title • Introduction • Process description • Methods and measurements • Results and discussion • Conclusions & recommendations Should be a true record of assessment
Employee Feedback Report • Needs to be presented in non technical language and an easy to read format • Needs to answer any concerns that the employee may have
Employee Feedback Report (cont) • Is most useful when presented by someone familiar with the monitoring exercise and the potential health risks • Needs to address any privacy concerns
Management Report • Should be a summary of the technical report (which is also provided) • Needs to identify the issues, present conclusions from the monitoring exercise & any recommendations for remedial action • A short visual presentation (2 – 3 slides) can be effective in communicating the report outcomes
Using Data to Drive Improvement • Need accessible database to store information • Useful to measure effectiveness of controls overtime • Pre & post measurements • Ongoing performance/maintenance • Useful to dispel myths – can be used to focus attention on the real issues not perceived issues

Practical Report • Using the data and information of the dust • practical (Part B) prepare a formal report • Use the AIOH guideline as a template • Draw conclusions and make appropriate • recommendations to control exposures • Hand completed report to lecturer for assessment

Mock Examination • Aim is to give students experience in sitting examinations of the type offered by the BOHS • Exercise should be used as a learning experience to highlight areas of further revision
Examination Format • 40 short answer questions in 100 minutes • The answers to all of the questions can be found in the student handbook • Some questions will require interpretation of material in the handbook • Some questions will involve calculations which must be shown on answer sheet • Each question can be answered in the space provided in the answer book • Pass mark is 50%
Some Examination Tips • Attempt all questions on the exam paper – it is possible for you to get some marks even if your answer is not completely correct • Make sure you are familiar with your student manual – you do not need to memorize the information it contains but you do need to find the information quickly in the examination.
