Processing of a Class 1 risk assessment Risk assessment prepared1 Risk assessment submitted to Site BSO Risk assessment circulated to GMSC2 including UBSA (for comment within a week) Formal note sent to PI with feedback from GMSC Subject to comments, work may commence Risk assessment signed by PI3 and Head of Institute/Department Original signed copy of assessment to be retained by PI, with copy sent to BSO All risk assessments formally ratified by GMSC at next meeting 1Assessment can be prepared by researchers involved in the project but must be under the supervision of PI 2Or at a meeting of GMSC if schedule allows 3Only permanent members of staff can sign assessments
