MISSION: The mission of CAYD is to improve the outcomes of youth and families in the Mid-south by building the capacity of youth serving organizations.

Mission: LOCCDC The LeMoyne-Owen College Community Development Corporation (LOCCDC) was developed to raise the economic and educational levels of those that live and work in the LeMoyne Owen College community. LOCCDC operates in a low to moderate income area of SoulsvilleUSA in Memphis, TN.
CAYD SERVICES • Provide technical assistance for design and implementation of youth and family services. • Provide culturally relevant training and professional development opportunities for youth service professionals. • To provide empowerment evaluation consultation and planning. • To translate and disseminate research on community-driven, evidence-based best practices for youth development interventions.
EASI Expanding Assets and Steering Initiative (EASI), at the Le Moyne-Owen College Community Development Corporation (LOCCDC) includes culturally-centered group mentoring of boys. It will utilizes the wisdom of elders (mentors) to engage boys 10-13 and support the families in South Memphis, TN.

Culture as a Strength Concepts influenced by an African worldview include: • Spirituality-shared belief “unified oneness” people/nature or Belief in a higher power. • Collectivity- The Commitment to interdependence of people.

EASI:CBPR Youth, mentor and caregiver focus groups and interviews contribute qualitative data that allows participants to speak in their own voice about the mentoring processes and outcomes.
EASI:CBPR • Evidenced-based standards of the national mentoring movement, MENTOR and recommendations by the National Academies Institute of Medicine influenced design. • SoulsvilleUSA Wellness Initiative for Men (SWIM) and Man-Up influenced design.
EASI:CBPR • Increases the capacity of the young males • Encourages empowerment of the community • Creates an environment for learning and growth • Provides a platform for people who historically have had minimal say in the research performed on them or about them.
Benefits of CBPR: Communities can get needs met by participating in a process that will authentically address the Community's needs.
EASI:CBPR The initial funding was for 18 months but committed to leveraging faculty service hours, student internship/volunteers, and donations to sustain the project for several years.
EASI:CBPR On average 10 boys each week during the collegiate school year and four weeks during the summer months for the past several years. The EASI model has successfully trained four cohorts’ young adult males to mentor enrolled EASI mentees.
