Improvisation-an impromptu portrayal of a character or scene • Scene-stealing-inappropriately diverting attention from the main actors by calling attention to yourself onstage. • Sitcoms-television programs that are situation-centered. • Character-centered approach-focus on the reactions of a character or group of characters placed in various situations. • Motivated sequence-natural way a person responds to stimuli. • First step in motivated sequence-stimulus • Characterization-putting together all facets of a character to bring life and interest to that character. • Idea connection-step in the motivational sequence in which your brain registers the stimulus. • “do nothing” effectively-to be visible onstage w/o scene stealing.   7. 10. Internal stimulus – thoughts and emotions 11.Situation-centered approach – placement of different characters in a certain situation, focusing on their various reactions. 12.   8. 13. Individual improvisation – improvisation that allows for depth in the development of single character. 14. Main response – last step in the motivated sequence in which you react vocally or physically. 15. Primary means of conveying character – voice, body language and movement 16.   9. 17. Spontaneity – the naturalness needed to keep a production fresh. 18. Situation – the problems, challenges and circumstances a character must face. 19. External stimuli – things that are heard, seen, tasted, felt or smelled. 20. “illusion of the first time” – the impression given by a performance that has spontaneity and freshness.   10. Think of your own experiences with learning. Pair up with a person nearby. The purpose of this “paired think-aloud” is to get to know each other better and to practice listening. One student should describe his/her learning experience. The other should record what the student says. The recorder should also ask questions necessary in order to write the other’s information correctly and encourage the speaker to explain what he/she means. Finally, pairs will switch roles and complete the exercise again.
