GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Gr 10 + Gr. 11 + Gr. 12 = 92 credits minimum • GRADE 11 • an English 11 • a S.S. 11 or 12* • a Mathematics 11 • Bible 11 • a Science 11 • a Language 11 – many universities require this • GRADE 12 • an English 12* • ________ 12 • _________ 12 • Bible 12 • Transitions 12 (Career Ed) • GRADE 10 • English 10* • Social Studies 10 • Science 10* • Bible 10 • a Mathematics 10* • a PE 10 • An Applied Skill or Fine Art class • A Language 10 – many universities require this PLUS additional courses (electives) at Gr 10, 11, & 12 Additional Requirements – Capstone Project+30 hours volunteer and/or work experience + 80 hours of physical fitness
English English 12 • Open to students who have passed English 11 • Is required for most programs, including those at college Communications 12 • Intended for students who are not planning on going to university • Does enable a student to “officially” graduate
Science You must make sure you have passed a science 11 or 12 by the end of next year If you are going in to the Health, Engineering, Business, Science fields in college or university, you are likely to need TWO gr. 12 sciences
Math You must make sure you have passed a math 11 by the end of next year Are you going in to the Health, Business, Engineering, Science fields in college or university? If so, plan to take MATH 12
Second Language Are you thinking about going directly to a university? Most require a second language 11. This does not have to be French, but may not be a Beginner’s Language (eg. Beginner Spanish 11) UBC is now looking for a second language 12 for some programs
Social Studies You must make sure you have passed a Social Studies 11 Or 12. There are many options Law Studies 12 History 12 Genocide Studies 12 BC First Nations 12 Social Justice 12 Comparative Cultures 12 Comparative Religions 12 Geography 12
Consider EXTERNAL CREDITS … A student can earn extra school credits for participation in some specific programs – here are just a FEW: • Driver Training Course • Girl Guides / Cadets • Provincial & National level sport teams • NLS & Bronze Cross (swimming) • Royal Conservatory Music levels Credits are given for SPECIFIC levels of participation as determined by the Ministry of Ed. Check with Mrs. Spencer - You need to give her appropriate documentation!
LONG RANGE PLANNING What happens AFTER GRADUATION? START THINKING…
What are you going to do after you graduate? Short term? Long term? • Go to work? • Travel? • Military? • College? • University? • Do you know how to get there? If you don’t, you need to!
When will I apply for college or university? In the fall!!! as early as november, so it is time to start thinking – spend some time over the summer looking in to different colleges, universities, schools, etc.
UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE ENGLISH 12 (usually min 73% or higher ) + 3 Grade 12 academic courses (check on those that are acceptable to the school & the program you wish to enter) Some programs have grade 11 course requirements as well. ~Consider a University Transfer Program via College~
University Admission Requirements University Arts • English 12 (min. of 70%) • 3 Approved Academic 12 courses • Language 12 recommended • University entrance based on final grades of these 4 courses only • Grade11 course marks used for admittance if Grade 12 course not until 2nd semester Last year, UBC-O admitted with an entrance average of low 80’s Last year, UBC-Van admitted with an entrance average of mid to high 80’s University Sciences • English 12 (min of 70%) • Pre-Calculus 12 (min. 67%) • 2 other approved academic grade 12 courses, incl. one of Biology 12, Chemistry 12, Physics 12 • Grade 11 requirements: Chemistry 11 • Recommended: Physics 11, Calculus 12 • Grade 11 course marks used for admittance if Grade 12 course not until 2nd semester Last year, UBC-O admitted with an entrance average of low to mid 80’s Last year, UBC-Van admitted with an entrance average of high 80’s to low 90’s

Let’s Review In grade 12 you must take: • An English 12 • Transitions 12 • Bible 12 • PLUS... 5 elective courses(make sure you have at least one Applied Skill or Fine Art course some time between gr. 10-12 ) IF YOU ARE GOING TO UNIVERSITY YOU MUST HAVE 3 GR. 12 COURSES THAT ARE CONSIDERED ACADEMIC!!!! .
Plan Carefully Next year’s timetable will be built based on your choices now. Therefore, changing courses will NOT be simple.
