  2. What does an ant look like? • Ants are a type of insect. • Ants have a head, thorax and abdomen. They have six legs attached to their thorax. • The head consists of the jaws, eyes, and antennae.

  3. Protection • Ants have poison sacks or stingers at the end of their abdomen. • They use these to protect themselves against predators. • Army ants bite and sting any creatures that come nearby.

  4. What’s for dinner? • Ants eat small insects, as well as seeds, leaves, fruits and vegetables • Ants have two stomachs. One to hold food for themselves, and one that holds food for their family.

  5. Ant facts • Ants live in colonies with thousands of other ants. • Some ants can fly, these ants have two pairs of wings. • Ants have been living on Earth for more than 100 million years.
