VDL Mode 2 Ground Station Status • US • 40+ AOA stations operational • …and approaching 50+ stations quickly • over 90 stations deployed by end of CY 2002 • 9 aircraft using AOA operationally and number of aircraft growing (revenue flights) • Europe • 3 AOA stations being installed to support Airbus • Toulouse is operational • Lyon and Nice are installed; waiting for frequency license

EUROCONTROL PETAL II • PETAL II in operational environment at Maastricht Upper Air Control Centre • With line ATC controllers • Revenue and non-revenue flights of American Airlines 767-300ERs • Also conducted test flights with Qinetiq BAC1-11 in a test sector configuration • Flight operations completed September 01 • PETAL II was a Success • Demonstrated viability/suitability of CPDLC over VDLM2/ATN • Worked out many technical and ops issues for CPDLC over VDLM2/ATN in a trials environment • Basis for US-based CPDLC program and Link 2000+

FAA CPDLC Build 1 • CPDLC Build 1 partners, in a consensus decision, replanned CPDLC Build 1 • Technical validation and operational evaluation conducted • Operational service begins Sep 02 and lasts until Build 1A (Dec 05) • ARINC has installed the US ATN/VDLM2 ground network • 4 stations in FL operational (MCO, RSW, GNV, MIA) • Provides partial coverage of the Miami ARTCC airspace to support testing pre-operational testing • 5 additional stations (9 total) to be operational by Sep 02 • FAA flight tests with Rockwell Collins • In the Miami ARTCC • Three successful flights on 22, 24 January 02

Summary ARINC VDL Mode 2 and CPDLC • AOA and ATN capability using VDL Mode 2 is now available • Customers are using VDL Mode 2 operationally today • Coverage is being expanded as customer aircraft are equipped • CPDLC activities are proceeding • PETAL II was a success • CPDLC Build 1 is in flight tests
