Secondary advisors will include a deliberate and explicit focus on improving outcomes for Maori and Pasifika • Planning and delivery of secondary education PLD must reflect approaches for supporting Maori students and for supporting Pasifika students that are distinct from each other
Ka Hikitia - Managing for Success: The Māori Education Strategy 2008 - 2012 includes the focus area ‘Young People Engaged in Learning’ with the secondary-related goals to: • increase the effectiveness of teaching and learning for Māori students in Years 9 and 10 • supportprofessional leaders to take responsibility for Māori students’ presence, engagement and achievement • improve support for Years 9 and 10 Māori students to make decisions about future education pathways • support Māori students to stay at school and stay engaged in learning.
Pasifika Education Plan 2009-2012: There is a specific focus on accelerating literacy and numeracy achievement and gaining secondary-level qualifications in this plan. It includes a goal to increase the quality of teaching and school leadership by increasing responsiveness to Pasifika learners and families, so that there is:
