  2. Sam Houston • Born on March 2, 1793, Sam Houston was one of the greatest Texans in History. Houston was a leader of Texas independence. Houston was a member of the U.S. army. Houston was also the first president of the republic of Texas. Before he joined the U.S army, he was a lawyer.

  3. Family • At the age of 19, Houston married Eliza Allen on January 22, 1829. Eliza left him shortly after the marriage. That same year, Houston married Tiana Rogers. They had 2 children: Gabriel (born 1819) and Joanna (born 1822).

  5. Description and Character Traits • Sam Houston had a lot of leadership and courage. He wore a suit, bow tie and sometimes wore a hat.
