Contentent • Summer of 1944: while in the concentration camps the Jews try to celebrate Rosh Hashanah • Eliezer has lost his faith in God and people • He becomes separated from his father to work in a building unit • His father is too weak so will be executed so he gives Eliezer his knife and spoon
Content • Luckily there was a 2nd selection within the group and so Chlomo (his father) survived • During winter Eliezer’s foot swells so he goes through an operation • Germans hear Russia is coming so they begin to evacuate • They evacuate to Buna on a trip over night
Content • After there trip they wind up running 42 miles to a deserted village • Finally they arrive a gleiwitz camp • They don’t get food or water for three days and then there is a selection • They are then forced into cars again to Buchenwald where 100 are taken but only 12 survived (Eliezer and Chlomo survive)
Content • After the trip his father is extremely sick and unable to move • January 29, 1945 his father was taken to the crematory • April 10th American armies come and there is 20,000 still in the camp • April 11th they arrive at Buchenwald • Eliezer is strucken with food poisoning and dies
