Information about me • I am in the second group on the Periodic Table. • My family is known as the Alkaline Earth Metals. • I am in the fourth period of the Periodic Table. • Elements of the same period with me have a similar number of protons. • I am the fifth most abundant element in the Earth’s crust.

Details About Who I Am • My atomic mass number is 40.08 • I am number 20 on the periodic table which means I have 20 protons in my nucleus. • Since protons and electrons equal each other, I also have 20 electrons. • I have two valence electrons in my outermost shell. • I am a member of the S shell. • My melting point is 842oC • My boiling point is 1484oC
My Founder… • I was first isolated by Sir Humphry Davy in 1808 in London, England. • He named the metal calcium because of its occurrence in calx which is the Latin name for lime.
What’s so special about me? • I am used to help build strong bones. • I am essential for people with osteoporosis, colon cancer, and high blood pressure.
Who Are My Best Friends? • My best friends are Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine. • I can easily bond with any of these elements. • I do not like the Noble Gas family. • I am friends with the Chalogens, they want to gain two electrons; I want to give away two electrons. We make a perfect match.
Important Things That I Have Done • I am used in antacids for help with indigestion. • Tums for example… • I am used in supplements to help people that have weak bones. • I can also be used to help with heartburn, overactive thyroids, and muscle spasms. • I can also reduce the risk of stokes and breast cancer.
