NCWH History • 1979:  Founded by Lila Wallis, MD, headquartered at the Weill-Cornell Medical College • 1980: NCWH begins a series of Women's Health Days to promote awareness. 1981: NCWH convenes the First Symposium on Women's Health, attended by several hundred physicians and women. 1983: The Second Symposium convenes.1989: The Third Symposium convenes. 1990: NCWH begins Mothers and Daughters Race Against Teen Smoking (MADRATS) to raise awareness of this epidemic.1994: MADRATs participation burgeons into the thousands, NCWH partners with the New York RoadRunners Club.1998: NCWH convenes the Fourth Symposium on Women's Health with several thousand attendees.1999: NCWH establishes the Shirley Sacks Award for Outstanding Contributions to Women's Health.2001: NCWH begins community outreach with programs on health. 2004: NCWH campaigns against teen obesity with the Girls Get Healthy Program. 2005: NCWH awards Gloria Steinem the Shirley Sacks Award. 2007: Girls Get Healthy! expands to 10 schools in four boroughs of New York City.2008-2010: NCWH launches in-school sex-education workshops for 6th-12th graders.

  3. Our Mission Statement • Outreach:We bring much-needed health resources to underserved teens. • Mentorship: Our staff serves a dual purpose as both instructors and mentors • Empowerment:Knowledge to make informed and healthy choices for a sustainable way of life.

Statistics • Reached 1100 girls in the last year • Worked at 10 schools • Administrative staff are volunteers • Weekly nutrition and exercise classes • Sex education work shops I've stopped eating McDonald's for a while... that's huge!" -Adelicia, age 13 "I tell my mom about the recipes so she can get healthy herself."  -Violet, age 12
