  3. When Was it Founded? This colony was founded in 1624.

Last 2 Facts • The English wanted to take over New Netherlands because it was located between the existing English colonies of New England and Virginia. • The settlements of New Netherlands were given to the English Duke of York, who had ordered the attacks on New Amsterdam, thus giving the region its present name: New York.
