  1. THE LABOUR PARTY

  2. TheLabour Party is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1900, and has grown out of the trade union movement and socialist parties of the nineteenth century. It overtook the Liberal Party to become the main opposition to the Conservative Party in the early 1920s, forming minority governments. It is currently the Official Opposition in the Parliament of the United Kingdom, having won the second-largest number of seats in the 2017 general election. WHAT IS IT?

  3. “WhenLabourwinselections, itis the people and not the powerfulwhowin.” Thissentenceis a quotation of the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn. Throughouthispolitical career, he hasalwaysstood up for a country thatdelivers for the many not the few. Now, Labour is leading a movement based on equality, social justice and compassion to build a Britain we can all be proud of. The Labour Party, founded for and by working people, continues to stand up for working people. During his career, he has worked to stop big businesses and very rich people avoiding tax. He has been an anti-war and anti-nuclear activist. After Labour's defeat in the 2015 general election and the resignation of Ed Miliband, Corbyn announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Labour Party on 6 June 2015. Although many people did not believe he would win, he won enough votes to become the lead candidate. He won many votes from trade unions who supported the Labour Party, as well as left wing activists. He was elected Leader of the Labour Party on 12 September 2015 after winning 59.5% of the votes in the first round of the ballot.

  4. The Labour Party originated in the late 19th century, meeting the demand for a new political party to represent the interests and needs of the urban working class, which had increased in number, and many of whom only gained suffrage with the passage of the Representation of the People Act (1884). It is political organisation built on equality, social justice and compassion, a movement of over half a million members working to elect a government that puts those shared values into action.
