  2. Today’s session… After today’s session you will be able to… • Explain and understand the influences on people to participate in PE. • Explain a number of initiatives to get and keep people involved in PE. • Explain the sports participation pyramid.

  3. Task… • Discuss with the people around you… • What are the reasons you participate in PE? • What influences do other people have on you? • Are the reasons you take part in sport (outside of school) different to the reasons you take part in PE? • Make a spider diagram to represent your answers…

  5. People… • Family: children often take part in activities already within the family i.e. dad played football, mum played netball etc. • Supporting teams? • Friends: the influence of friends is very important- it is much easier to succeed at an activity that friends do or encourage you in…

  6. Role Models and the Media… • Successful or important performers. • Media Spotlight: Good Vs. Bad? • Inspiration to play? Inspiration to cheat?

  7. Image… • “Fashion” may require you to have the “best” kit- Sport itself requires certain kit i.e. Boots, Shinguards, Pads etc. • Expensiveness of kit is caused by the media and advertising. • What do you think happens before Wimbledon fortnight? • How much money do you think is spent on new kit before new year!

  8. The Media in Sport: The London Marathon… • People watch the marathon. • People are inspired to participate. • People buy new kit. • People are sponsored. • The whole event is sponsored.
