  2. AMCL - Details • Will house world’s current most sensitive microscope! • No Electromagnetic fields close by. • User wanted minimal metals in building. • Very low air flows – during microscope operation. • Design-Bid-Build method

  3. AMCL – Commissioning • CX was brought in by AE too late in design process ~90% • Lots of engineering hold points to measure and verify rebar placement. • Lots of measurements to verify HVAC performance in Instrument room. • Reqd final measurements to verify Electromagnetic fields.

  4. AMCL • Construction bids were way over budget. • Contractor unfamiliar with CX term. $$ to cover • Many other factors went into $$$ (DDC, Arch design) • Currently redesigning with GMP approach and Contractor on board. • CX in-house • No Hold points • No testing of electromagnetic fields as part of project • No special air flow tests.

  5. Private Sector Bldg - Commissioning • Developer got CX on board way too late in design. • Cancelled Developer CX contract after first meeting – ORNL contracted for CX. • ORNL has VERY limited engineering staff • Building ~ 150,000 nusf • ORNL CX doing great job! • CX also assisting project team with LEED documentation.

  6. Joint Institute for Computer Science • State bldg • ORNL provided CX from beginning of design (same CX as on Private Sector). • ORNL cancelled LEED LAP contract at ~ 60% and gave to CX. • Construction under way and all is going good.

  7. Mouse House -Commissioning • Design-Build – complicated HVAC system • CX on board late. • Draft of CX plan rejected. • CX details coming together with our guidance.

  8. CX General • MASTERSPEC – new sections (have not used) • 01810 General Commissioning Requirements • 01815 HVAC Commissioning Requirements • Has helped to augment our Engineering staff especially during construction. • Proved beneficial for CX to assist with LEED.
