AFSC Liaison Program How do we at Gunpowder wish to utilize it? Today is about AFSC, but it is even more so about us
Genesis of Liaison Program Helps AFSC Helps Meetings
Peace & Social Justice engagement in the meeting looks like: • Education about issues • Advocating individually and collectively • Community Service Projects
AFSC suggests: • Program models/options for meeting engagement. • Issues to learn about and engage with
can utilize AFSC’sframework for action principles: • Educate yourself: Learn about the issue you want to work on, read, study together, and discuss • Educate your community: Share your learning through public education events – show a movie and invite discussion or invite a speaker to present • Get connected: Reach out to the community most impacted by the issue, listen to their concerns and analysis, ask questions, join with their efforts and organizations • Do something supportive: Ask community members what can help – accompany returning citizens as they are released from prison, write letters to the editor speak out for immigration reform, etc. • Get political: Join organizations working for policy change, contact your state or national representatives, and advocate for laws and policies that will shift the practices “Nothing about us without us” ~ Lucy Duncan
some queriesto sit with for a bit… • does what we do already express what we are able to do and what we want to do, as a meeting? • is there capacity for more, does the meeting want to do more? • where is our energy?
