El presente. Remember that there are 3 types of infinitives in Spanish: - ar , - er , and – ir. To use verbs in other forms besides the infinitive, you will conjugate them. Example: I run. You talk. We write. Yo corro . Tú hablas . Nosotros escribimos. Present Tense.

  1. El presente Remember that there are 3 types of infinitives in Spanish: -ar, -er, and –ir. To use verbs in other forms besides the infinitive, you will conjugate them. Example: I run. You talk. We write. Yocorro. Túhablas. Nosotrosescribimos. Present Tense

  2. How to conjugate verbs: • First you will look at the verb in the infinitive and drop the ending (-ar, -er, -ir). Hablar Habl- CorrerCorr- EscribirEscrib- • Then you will add verb endings depending on the type of infinitive and subject.

  3. -Ar Verb Endings -o • yo • tú • él/ella/Ud. • nosotros(as) • ellos/ellas/Uds. -amos -as -a -an

  4. Un ejemplo: hablar hablo • yo • tú • él/ella/Ud. • nosotros(as) • ellos/ellas/Uds. hablamos I talk we talk hablas you talk habla hablan they/you all talk he/she talks OR you talk (formal)

  5. -Er Verb Endings -o • yo • tú • él/ella/Ud. • nosotros(as) • ellos/ellas/Uds. -emos -es -e -en

  6. Un ejemplo: correr corro • yo • tú • él/ella/Ud. • nosotros(as) • ellos/ellas/Uds. corremos I run we run corres you run corre corren they/you all run he/she runs OR you run (formal)

  7. -Ir Verb Endings -o • yo • tú • él/ella/Ud. • nosotros(as) • ellos/ellas/Uds. -imos -es -e -en

  9. El presente • The verb endings always indicate who is doing the action. Because of this, you can use the verb without a subject: Habloingles. Corresmucho. • Subject pronouns are often used for emphasis or clarification. Ella habla ingles, peroélhablaespañol.
