Jackie Robinson • He broke the color barrier in major league baseball which let other African American people play in major league baseball.
Martin Luther King Jr. • He made a very famous speech during March on Washington that helped stop segregation.
Hank Aaron • He broke the baseball record for home runs and people sent him death threats because they didn’t want a black person to beat Babe Ruth's record. Then Babe Ruth's wife said Babe would be cheering him on. This gave African Americans faith that they could do things as good as whites
Rosa Parks • She broke the law and didn’t give her bus seat to a white person and she started the bus boycott. This let blacks sit anywhere on the bus.
Abe Lincoln • Abe Lincoln was the president from 1861 to 1865. He wanted slavery to be against the law. He was with the Union in the civil war who were against slavery.
Nelson Mandela • He stopped segregation in South Africa.
Oliver Brown • He started the court case Brown vs. Board of Education. He wanted the same schools for blacks and whites.
Branch Rickey • The owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers when Jackie Robinson played. He believed in Jackie and like him even though Jackie was the first black and many people hated him.
