NCHRP 20-68A: Domestic Scan History • Apr ‘05: SCOR approved concept ($250,000 FY ’05) • July ‘05: Business Plan completed(Cambridge Systematics, Inc.) • Nov ‘06: Pilot scans (2) completed • (reports published as web documents; FHWA support +$75,000) • Dec ‘07: Full program initiated(Arora and Associates, Inc.; 6-yr contract) • 5 continuations approved through CY 2010 ($500,000/yr for scans, $2.5 million total + FHWA support, $224,000) • Feb ’11: 9 scans completed (7 reports published), 6 in process, 6 programmed • SCOR Approved March 2011: $500,000 FY2012

NCHRP 20-68B: Scan Alternatives • Scan types: • Scan team visits host agencies, approximately 2 weeks of travel • Host-agency representatives and scan team meet in 2 to 3 central locations for group discussions, approximately 1 week of travel • Host-agency representatives and scan team participate in workshop or symposium, possibly linked to another event
NCHRP 20-68C: Research on Innovation Networks • Assess impact of Domestic Scan Program • Scans shape broader innovation activity at State DOTs & how this relates to other innovation sources • Diffusion of maintenance innovations via domestic scans • Survey on maintenance activities • Track three maintenance innovations: Maintenance Decision Support System; Tow Plow; Auto Pot Hole Patcher
