  2. ¿Cuándo se usa? • The present progressive is used to express what is happening or what someone is doing at any given time. • Although it is the Spanish equivalent of the English “ing” form of the verb, it is used much less frequently. • MOST of the time, unless you are emphasizing the right now of the action or event, you use the present tense.

  3. ¿Cómo se forma? Estar Present participle

  4. Estar estoy estamos estás estáis están está

  5. Verbos en –AR • Present tense of estar in the appropriate conjugation. • Drop the –AR • Add ANDO

  6. Verbos en –ER o –IR • Present tense of estar in the appropriate conjugation. • Drop the –ER or –IR • Add IENDO

  7. I am listening. • Yoestoyescuchando.

  8. She is talking. • Ella estáhablando.

  9. We are buying clothes. • Nosotrosestamoscomprando la ropa.

  10. You (inf) are running. • Túestáscorriendo.

  11. We are living. • Nosotrosestamosviviendo.

  12. They are learning. • Ellosestánaprendieno.

  13. Los irregulares • Some verbs that have a stem-change in the present tense also have a stem change in their present participle. • Other verbs change the i to a y to preserve their pronunciation.

  15. EI • Servir (to serve) • Pedir (to ask for) • Repetir (to repeat) • Seguir (to follow) • Serving = sirviendo • Asking for = pidiendo • Repeating = repitiendo • following = siguiendo

  16. Y • Ir (to go) • Leer (to read) • Oír (to hear) • Going = oyendo • Reading = leyendo • Hearing = oyendo

  17. The girl is following her mom. • La chicaestásiguiendo a sumamá. ***Don’t forget the “a personal”!
