  2. El presente progresivo describes an action that is in progress. It means someone is …ing something right now. Ej: I am teaching. You are taking notes. We are listening.

  3. Hay 2 partes del Presente Progresivo: 1. Use a form of estar in the present tense (according to your subject) estoy estamos estás xxxxxxx está están

  4. 2. Add a participle (-ing) –ar verbs: drop the –ar and add –ando hablar hablando –er/ir verbs: drop the –er/ir and add –iendo comer comiendo salirsaliendo

  5. En total… • So, in all, you will have 2 words to form this tense. Ej: I am talking  Estoy hablando You are writing  Estás escribiendo. We are living  Estamos viviendo.

  6. Irregular Participles With these 2 verbs, the –i changes to a -y Ej: Are you reading a book?  Estás leyendo un libro? Is she bringing food?  Está trayendo comida?

  10. Stem changers • Some IR verbs have a vowel change in the present participle form. • e-i: decir becomes diciendo • o-u: dormir becomes durmiendo • Others: • servir, repetir, pedir, competir, seguir, venir, morir, vestirse

Pronouns: using reflexives • Can be placed either before the conjugated form of estar or attached to the end of the participle. • I am washing my face. • Me estoy lavando la cara. • Estoy lavándome la cara. • When attaching the pronoun to the participle you need to add an accent to the letter before the ‘ n.’ Accent over the ándo or iéndo Before conjugated form of estar Attached to the participle
