AP Statistics • Description • This independent study course provides students with the content established by the College Board. Topics include: (1) exploring data, (2) planning a study, (3) anticipating patterns, and (4) statistical inference. The use of graphing calculators and computer programs is required.
AP Statistics • Outcomes • In analyzing data, make use of graphical and numerical techniques to study patterns and departures from patterns. • Collect data according to a well-developed plan if you wish to obtain valid information. • Use probability to anticipate what the distribution of data should look like under a given model. • Use statistical inference to guide selection of appropriate models. • Strategy for Success • Work cooperatively to study chapters!
AP Statistics • Materials • Calendar • 1st Semester: Exploring Data, Normal Distributions, Examining Relationships, More on Two-Variable Data, Producing Data, Probability, Random Variables, Binomial/Geometric Distributions • 2nd Semester: Sampling Distributions, Introduction to Inference, Inference for Distributions, Proportions, Tables, Regression, Analysis of Variance
AP Statistics • Components • Test (100): Once per quarter, divided between MC and FR • Project (100): Once per quarter • Homework (5): Almost nightly, may be optional • Scale • A+ ≥ 99 • A ≥ 95 • A- ≥ 93 • B+ ≥ 91 • B ≥ 87 • B- ≥ 85 • C+ ≥ 83 • C ≥ 79 • C- ≥ 77 • D+ ≥ 75 • D ≥ 72 • D- ≥ 70
Room 210 • Policies • Attendance: Planned absences get no extension, unplanned absences get extension equal to number of days absent • Tardiness: “On time” includes not needing to leave after arrival • Behavior: Every member of this class is responsible for maintaining a positive classroom environment. • Includes proper usage of the computers, especially the Internet • Consequences (reset every quarter): Warning, AM/PM, Detention • Procedures • Syllabus: Once per quarter
