Authentic leadership • Definition: “mixture made of authentic leaders and followership: leadership is always a relationship between leaders and followers” (Hollander, 1992; Howell & Shamir, 2005). • Followers make the leadership as authentic • Leaders lead authentically because of their convictions (and not because of their position) • 4 components: Self-awareness, internalized moral perspective, balanced processing, relational transparency

Why ethics and trust are vital to effective leadership • Trustiness environment: Trust is a key component of successful working relationships between leaders and followers (and individuals more generally) that enables cooperation, helps to manage differences, encourages information sharing, and increases openness and mutual acceptance. (Mayer et al., 1995) • Business leaders must make decision that will not only benefit them, but also they must think about how the other people must be effected.

Why ethics and trust are vital to effective leadership • Ethical leadership ― the demonstration of normatively appropriate conduct through personal actions and interpersonal relationships, and the promotion of such conduct to followers through two-way communication, reinforcement, and decision-making‖ (Brown, Treviño, & Harrison, 2005, p. 120). • Ethics => respect & admiration of employees
