  1. Revising v Editing Own these Writing Traits

  2. Remember this: Revise for meaning, and edit for conventions. Revise for meaning, and edit for conventions. Revise for meaning, and edit for conventions. Revise for meaning, and edit for conventions.

  3. Revise for meaning… • Idea development • Word Choice • Voice • Sentence Fluency • Organization

  4. Edit for conventions… • Spelling • Punctuation • Capitalization • Paragraphing • Grammar & Usage

  5. Your Challenge? Visualize! Imagine you had a block of text…maybe it’s shaped like a house…and that Eddie Edit and Roger Revisions were contractors hired to remodel. What would each job look like? Working with a partner, you will each create a poster, one for revisions and one for editing that shows how each “contractor” works. GET CREATIVE! You can certainly use Mr. Stick. Use the “blocks” of text from magazines provided as your materials and/or draw whatever other details you need (to the best of your ability). SKETCH YOUR IDEAS ON NOTEBOOK PAPER FIRST!!! Now that you have each trait defined in your notes, use your notes as a checklist to make sure that somewhere on your poster, Roger and Eddie are completing their remodeling job thoroughly! Your final posters should be eye-catching, creative, and include each element required.
