5. Possessive Nouns Add an apostrophe s (‘s) to a singular noun to show possession Ex. The girl’s dress was pretty. If the noun is plural, add an apostrophe after the s (s’) Ex. The three girls’ dresses were yellow. If the plural noun does not end in s add an apostrophe s (‘s) The children’s shirts were red.

Regular Verbs • Regular Verbs • Add “ed” to a regular verb to show that something happened in the past • What are some examples of regular verbs? • Helping Verbs • You can also use helping verbs “have” “has” or “had” to show past tense Ex. She has packed a lunch. Waves have pounded the shore. Penguins had jumped in the water.

9. Participles and participle phrases • Verb form used as an adjective • Past participle – add “ed” ex. The ants made bricks out of chewed dirt. • Present participle – add “ing” ex. The growing puppy needed food. • Participle phrase – group of words that describe the noun • ex.Leaving the press conference, the politician felt confident about her answers.
