PBIS-Are you Swimming? What is PBIS? The concept behind Positive Behavior Intervention Support is to support positive behavior within our school and ultimately maximize time for student learning. Clear expectations have been set for behavior in individual classrooms as well as all non-classroom settings.

Why did my child get a 4 in 2nd grade, but only a 3 in 3rd grade?
Reading Focus • We are all utilizing the Daily Five model of teaching and learning reading which promotes independent learning and self monitoring skills • http://www.thedailycafe.com/public/781.cfm • Throughout the year, students will read and investigate a variety of Fictional and Non-Fictional texts, including: • Mysteries, Fairy Tales, Folktales, Non-Fiction, Poetry, and Biographies • With these texts we will be focusing on skills like: • Main idea, supporting details, summarizing, and identifying story elements (plot, characters, setting, point of view)
What will Reading look like? Teachers will: • Work with students one on one and in small groups to provide enrichment and remediation Students will: • Rotate through Daily Five choices • Focus on independent and small group practice of skills taught during mini-lessons
Writing Focus Quarter 1- Narratives Quarter 2- Opinions Quarter 3- Letters / Poetry / Instructional Quarter 4- Research
