What is the Mary Celeste? • The Mary Celeste is a mystery about a ghost ship that sailed off with people but was found with none • The boat was a brigantine with a history of bad luck • It was owned by many people all did encounter its fowl luck • The boat was first named the Amazon but was changed to The Mary Celeste by Captain Benjamin Briggs

  3. The Evidence Left Behind • A mini piano ,tobacco ,food, sewing machine, oil skins, raincoats, pipes where some of the many items left on the ship • All items seemed to be dropped in a hurry • A very large wood stove was moved across the floor • The life boat was also missing

  4. The People on Board • There were 10 people aboard the ship when it first set off • Captain Benjamin Briggs , wife Sarah Briggs , 2 year old daughter Sophia and 7 crew men • Benjamin had sailed 2 other boats before purchasing the Mary Celeste

  5. About the Boat • Was first called Amazon • First ten years of sailing she was involved in several accidents • Made by Joshua Dewis in 1861 • Changing the name was suppose to reverse the luck

  6. Theories • The most scientific theory is that there was a sea quake that rocked them off the boat • That there was a leak in the cargo and they thought it was going to explode so they temporarily left the boat but it floated away • A water spout that washed them away off the boat

  7. Who Found it • The first mate on the Da Gratia spotted the ship through a spyglass • He bored the ship and sailed it • He found it on Dec 4,1872 • The boat was said to look very creepy sailing alone
