THE PLOT Guy’s disease Anne’s escape from the convent Guy’s death Tim went to France Gertrude followed Tim secret love affair b/w them their marriage anonymous letter Tim came back to Daisy they separated Tim came back to Gertrude Anne was in love with the Count, he was in love with Gertrude; Anne lost and got the faith in God, the Count lost the faith that he would be with Gertrude.

  4. The Count (Peter Wittgenstein) Appearance He was tall and very thing. He had a pale thing face, very light blue eyes, colourless hair. He looked like a symbolic logician, a breaker of codes. The way to earn money He worked with Guy. Tim Reede Appearance A weedy young man The way to earn money Painter, stealing food from peoples’ fridges, was lazy, could do nothing.

  5. Attitude to friendship He was in the dying man’s room like his dog might be. Love to Gertrude He felt no jot of jealousy, even of envy, so high above him was Gertrude’s marriage. Attitude to friendship Love to Gertrude I just love you, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t make anything else in the world different. (when in France)

  6. - He wanted to cry aloud and fall down and embrace her knees and kiss her feet, but all he could do wasto stand awkwardly about. (after Guy’s death) - Tonight was the first night upon the dark road which led straight on to death. (after he understood that they would never be together) - He was thinking of her at every second. (of Gertrude, when in France)

  7. Simultaneous love affair with other women Simultaneous love affair with other women He loved Daisy more than he had ever loved her before. (after Gertrude learnt about Daisy)

ВЫВОДЫ: • Тим не чувствует настоящей любви ни к Дейзи, ни к Гертруде, Питер испытывает глубокие серьезные чувства к Гертруде. • Душевное благородство и желание, чтобы Гертруда была счастливой, заставляет Питера не вмешиваться в ее брак с Тимом, а, страдая, быть, по словам Манфреда, «ее рабом». • На разговор с Гертрудой малодушного Тима толкает не любовь к ней, а отчаяние (он потерялся, блуждая по имению Гертруды) и физическая боль.
