  1. Interviewing for a job/internship-how Step 1: Before you interview, assess your interviewer’s perspective: • Why you need to do this: If you don’t, you could be unprepared for his reaction. • Questions to ask yourself to do Step 1: • After reading my resume and/or application, what would my interviewer probably think of me? • Would my interviewer think that I’m a good candidate for his position or internship? • What non-controversial topics might we make “small talk” about?

  2. Interviewing for a job/internship-how Step 2: Before you interview, determine or know your purpose: • Why you need to do this: If you don’t know what you want to achieve, you won’t know what to say. • Questions to ask yourself to do Step 2: • Am I trying to overcome my interviewer’s objections regarding my skills, including “soft” ones? • How can I convince my interviewer that I can handle this position’s tasks?

  3. Interviewing for job/internship-how Step 3: When you answer interview questions, state your main point/message at start of your answers: • Why you need to do this: Interviewer wants to know your main point, message, or conclusion right away. • Questions to ask yourself to do Step 3: • How can I respond clearly and concisely to the questions my interviewer will probably ask? • How can I acknowledge my interviewer’s objection but politely point out why it isn’t applicable to my situation?

  4. Interviewing for a job/internship-how Step 4: -Whenyou answer longer interview questions, use a logic flow to guide your comments: • Why you need to do this: This is an effective way to lead your interviewer through your thinking. Without it, you and/or your interviewer could get lost. • Question to ask yourself to do Step 4: • What are the key points/sub-points you want to make about an issue or in response to a question? • Can you give one or more examples of these points? .
