The norms of the World State are introduced through the conversations of Lenina, Fanny, Henry Foster, Bernard Marx, and Mustapha Mond. In the World State everyone belongs to everyone else. Pleasure and innocence are more important than freedom and knowledge. Lenina and Bernard become interested in one another and Bernard invites Lenina to a savage reservation. There they meet Linda, a former citizen of the World State, and her son John. Bernard gets permission to take the two to the World State as a social experiment. John struggles with an overwhelming love for Lenina and with accepting the World State’s societal norms. John does not want to conform to the World State and his displeasure with society leads to a dramatic end. The World State Dictionary • Bokanovsky: The process of cloning embryos. • Conditioning: Children are taught about their specific class and how they should act. • Decanting: The birthing process where children come from test tubes. • DHC: He is the Director of Hatchery Conditioning and is actually the father of John. • Feelies: Movies that appeal to the five senses. • Ford: The god in the World State. His symbol is the “T”. • Reservation: Area where people have multiple gods, children are born naturally, and people are not put into classes. These reservations are considered strange to World State citizens. • Savage: The nickname given to John because he comes from the Reservation and acts differently from the World State citizens. • Soma: Drug that is taken to relax and erase uncomfortable feelings. • Class system: People are put into certain classes. These classes are ranked in descending order: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilons.
Bios John the Savage Jacob Ruth is very excited to portray John the Savage. His other performances include Jack in "Jack and the Space Ship Beanstalk" in first grade, and Francis Flute in the sixth grade APEX production of "A Midsummer's Night Dream". Jacob competes in Indoor and Outdoor track in addition to Cross Country. He is impressed by the hard work of everyone else in the class to make this production a reality and is grateful for the chance to act, sing, and dance. Bernard Marx Zach Levy’s inspiration is Ronald Reagan because he made the country what it is today. His likes include biceps, the bench press, and calf muscles. His dislikes include rain storms, Jake Ritter, and getting a high score on the back nine. Zach loves his dog Leo the Lion and considers playing with Leo his favorite hobby. He would like to thank Ms. Martinez for giving him the opportunity to show his true talents. Song Playlist Song To the Tune of Artist 1. Deltas, Gammas, Epsilons 2. Test Tube Baby 3.Reservation 4. Linda Elana made her acting debut as Princess Daughter #2 in her fifth grade production of the King and I, and most recently played the mermaid daughter Alana in the Camp Timber Tops production of the Little Mermaid. Elana enjoys dancing, as well as jamming out to her favorite artists, Beyonce and the Zac Brown Band. Elana’s greatest inspiration is her absolutely adorable dog Max, who never fails to make her smile no matter what obstacles he faces. She would like to thank Ms. Martinez pitting her students against each other in the preparatory weeks and as well as her parents for not questioning the strange steps it took her to complete her role as Linda. Helmholtz Watson David Hopkins was a star in his parish’s productions of "Annie" and "The Music Man". In his free time, David enjoys deep sea fishing and playing varsity baseball. He gets his inspiration to portray Helmholtz Watson from his favorite actor Frankie Muniz. He would like to thank Ms. Martinez and all of his class members for making this year and performance of "Brave New World- The Musical" unforgettable. Henry Foster This is Aaron Rawdin’s first ever feature theatre production and hopes that it goes as well as it should. When not practicing vigorously for this musical, Aaron enjoys playing varsity baseball for the Abington Ghosts. He states that he gets his inspiration from one of his favorite actors Jason Segel. Finally, Aaron would like to thank everyone who has been a part of the Brave New World Period 3 production for making this a fantastic experience. Lenina Gabby Lopez sings with a jazz combo which is one of her favorite things ever, amongst pasta dinners and seasons of autumn and spring. She loves traveling and going places, as well as being able to make people laugh with her jokes that most people don’t really find funny. Some of her inspirations are Paul Sanchez as cheesy as that is, and Adele/Amy Winehouse (but not in a lifestyle kind of way). She’d like to thank everyone who came to watch her performance as well as life and Ms. Martinez for giving her this opportunity. DHC Charlie Sabach is happily playing the DHC. Charlie in his spare times works with videography. He creates comical videos for all to enjoy. Charlie participates in volleyball year round. He would like to thank the fellow members of his class for doing such a fantastic job preparing for this performance and making it a reality. Mustapha Mond This is Heather Trainor’s first year at Abington and has just moved from Wilmington, Delaware. She rides horses, plays field hockey, sings, and plays the piano.
