What is an abbreviation? • An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word (or phrase). • Abbreviations are often used to save time and space. • Some abbreviations are followed by a period (such as Mrs., Prof., ft. and Aug.), but some are not (such as cm, min, NY, and mph).
Abbreviation #1In. Clues: • You might find this on your ruler. • You use it to measure your foot. • There are twelve of these in a foot. The answer is an INCH.
