Goals: • Reduce data-related errors in federal and state reporting • Reduce data-related errors and inaccurate reporting that can lead to reductions in funding • Increase the quality of the data that will be used for evaluation purposes, such as the School Performance Profiles • Increase understanding of critical issues such as FERPA, data relationships and best practices • Create an effective and enterprise-wide culture of data quality • Improve the quality, timeliness and understanding of the data used for educational reporting, decision-making and school/student improvement Data Quality Certification Central Intermediate Unit 10 - SAC Meeting 9/11/13
Reinforce that data management responsibilities are critical to an effective school environment and require a specific set of skills (LEA Administrators) • Who is doing the job? Do they have the skills? Are they the best person for the job? What other duties do they have? Do these other duties interfere with PIMS responsibilities? How are they paid? Is there administrative oversight or are they are on their own? How do they resolve errors? • Do youhave a back-up plan? What would happen in your district if your PIMS person has a sudden long-term absence or leaves the district? Data Quality Certification Central Intermediate Unit 10 - SAC Meeting 9/11/13
What can Superintendents do to facilitate a culture of data quality? • Lead by Example & Prioritize PIMS • Enroll in the DQC Program • Ask to see the data • Use the data (Cohort Grad Rate, Incident Reporting, Enrollment Data) • Schedule & Participate in Data Team meetings • Be involved in Data Calendar formation • Make PIMS Data an agenda item at Admin. Meetings Call to Action Central Intermediate Unit 10 - SAC Meeting 9/11/13
What can Superintendents do to facilitate a culture of data quality? • Support • Talk to PIMS Admin./Data Entry Personnel • Provide Resources (TIME/QUIET/SHUFFLE DUTIES/SUBS) • Identify Existing Obstacles to Quality Data • Encourage Participation in DQC Program • Require Attendance at PDE Webinars for each Collection • Work with them through a PIMS submission • Complete the PIMS Administration Discussion Exercise • Be Involved Call to Action Central Intermediate Unit 10 - SAC Meeting 9/11/13
