  1. Reform Movements • National Association of Christian Educators/Citizens for Excellence in Education(NACE/CEE). • The National Association of Christian Educators (NACE) was founded in 1983 by Dr. Robert Simonds.

  2. The NACE objective: • To serve Christian teachers in public Schools. • Citizens for Excellence in Education (CEE) was formed to allow for two avenues to reform teachers from within the system and enable parents to exert pressure from outside the bureaucracy. -- NACE/CEE

  3. Founder/President: • Dr. Robert Simonds • Served in public schools for 35 years • High school teacher • High school principal • Professor of Philosophy, Architecture/Engineering and Mathematics • Adjunct professor in Teacher Education at UCLA

  4. Founder/President: • Served on President Reagan’s “Forum to Implement the National Commission on Excellence in Education Report “A NATION AT RISK” • Publisher of journals, newsletters, and books on: • reforming education • strengthening families • electing school board members

  5. NACE/CEE claims to have over 350,000 parents involved in all fifty states.

  6. NACE/CEE Purpose • The central purpose is to help parents and public school teachers across the U.S. • NACE/CEE works to help parents: • “restore academic excellence and traditional moral values to the public schools” • “strengthen and nurture Christian families” • “rescue their children from public schools to private Christian schools and home schools”

  7. NACE/CEE cites ways it helps parents: • Help in resolving public school issues • Help in forming local “chapters” • Networking with educational and governmental leaders • Providing resources for churches and families • Help with the public-Christian-home school decision

NACE/CEE Concerns: • NACE/CEE is concerned about the “rapidly deteriorating moral and academic environment. • NACE/CEE wants to help “replace faith-destroying curricula” with programs that support moral values and emphasize strong academics. • NACE/CEE wants a Basics-Based Education model as an alternate to the Outcome-Based Education model.

  9. NACE/CEE Concerns: • NACE/CEE is not trying to “Christianize” the public schools. • NACE/CEE believes traditional moral values should be upheld in the classroom. • NACE/CEE wants “SAFE PASSAGE”--The opportunity for education without Christian beliefs and values being destroyed.

NACE/CEE Concerns: • It appears that NACE/CEE policies may be changing somewhat from a focus on school reform to a focus on leaving the public school for Christian or home school. • “After 17 years of diligent, loving efforts to get reform in public schools...CEE...has decided to urge all Christians to leave the government indoctrination schools and save their Christian children from spiritual and academic failure” ~Robert Simonds

  13. Funding Sources: • Revenue seems to come from at least two sources: • Annual membership dues for NACE/CEE are $25.00 • Many NACE/CEE materials are available for individuals to purchase.
