“ A Breath of Peace…” RafaSalti
A big part of our culture is about stories, legends and fairytales. the main elements of these fables are love & magic, and there was also a habit in the old times manuscripts of reciting poems, and creating an ambiance of princesses surrounded by silk and gold and flowery gardens. What I did is recreating that ambiance with modern light colorful dresses.
First one is called “Damascus Jasmine” because of a cute story we have in Damascus; once upon a time an Omayyad Khalifa has planted all Damascus with jasmine so whenever the wind pass, the city is scented by jasmine. It’s meant to be made of pink damascene silk and white toil in shape of jasmines.
Second one is called “Arabian Spell”. Purple is the color of magic and romance, the Arabian touch is with embroidery and it meant to be made of purple heavy brocade and light mauve. Metallic accessories with colored rocks are suggested.
Third one is called "Wind Princess" it's meant to be made of yellow light brocade with a waist made of crochet, crochet had special rituals to produce it, when girls of the family set in a circle and make beautiful shapes of it, also it's a very prestigious wedding gift.
Forth one is called "Passion" it's simple, meant to be made of cotton, but what it's good about it, it's using oriental ornaments and Arabian font, which, if you didn’t know, is an art by it-self. I drew names of love in Arabic.
The fifth one is called "Desert Fire" , I took the top and the embroidery of a typical Bedouin lady dress, of course the original one would have sleeves and would be long and large, so I just took the best part and made it fluffy and attractive. It's meant to be made of red silk and light liner.
