BUILD’sHistory • In 1969, two street-gang outreach workers founded BUILD as a street intervention program after government funding was terminated for their work at the Division Street YMCA. • BUILD, Inc. has worked in some of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods giving at-risk youth alternatives to the violence that takes away their positive potential. • We have supported more than 80,000 young people to lead more productive lives. Many former program participants who have gone on to successful careers as attorneys, educators, policemen, firemen, and government employees identify BUILD programming as a key source of their success.
