Evaluation of Effective Educators: Tools that Can Help Agenda – February, 2013 Managing and performing evaluation Collecting outcome indicators A Network Strategy will help provide support Demonstration “Empowering teachers, administrators, policy makers, and parents to increase student achievement.” Presenters Irene Koffink, SLDS Manager Mike Schwartz, NH DOE Consultant Dean Hupp, Hupp Technologies
We are building a system to manage and perform Evaluations: Guiding Principles… Add an Option “Evaluations” • Seek LEA input throughout the process • Build upon existing Educator Information System (EIS) • Operationalize State-wide Model • Enable LEA Flexibility • Provide for a link between evaluations and professional development • Ensure secure access to protect privacy • Verify privacy of data to ensure LEA ownership
A secure ‘home page’ will display the evaluator’s educators and the status of their evaluations!! You can ‘drill down’ on any component to see the ‘evidence’ or rubric details. Evaluation Status Legend: s = started; c = complete; ip = inProcess; na = notApplicable; ns = notStarted 3-4/3/3/1/3 (overall score, followed by individual component scores).
The ‘Evaluation Summary’ will show you the overall state required ratings! You can ‘drill down’ on any x to see customized rubrics and evidence behind these ratings. Evaluation Summary Educator: xyz
You can define a rubric based upon models such as Charlotte Danielson, you can design your own, or simply use the state rubric based upon state rules. View: Learners and Learning Domain (could view all) Educator: xyz Hover Text: a. An understanding of how learners develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the personal, physical, social, and academic dimensions; and b. The ability to facilitate developmentally appropriate and challenging learning experiences based on the unique needs of each learner.
Throughout the evaluation process you can jump to Goals and PD Plans if your district chooses to capture these in EIS. Individual PD Goals and PD Plans Educator: xyz Goal: Professional Learning Activity: Add/Edit
You can define screens to capture evidence. In this case the district has configured EIS to capture Classroom Observations. On all screens you can email, print or export the page. Classroom Observation Educator: xyz Date: Feedback: Next Step:
An example of a page to capture Peer Evaluation information. Peer Feedback Educator: xyz Date: Load Image: Name ???? Peer: Feedback:
You can customize the evidence to capture what is appropriate for your district. Misc. Input Document Educator: xyz Date: Load Image: Comment:
We have begun the development effort! Demo – in just one minute (or two). But first…
PerformancePLUS provides access to multiple measures and enables collection of evidence that can be used in evaluations. (Student names are fictitious) In addition to an evaluation tool, we want to help LEAs gather meaningful measurements
Existing reports allow evaluators to look at NECAP growth – to consider ‘shared attributes’ or student outcomes for a given teacher. (Student names are fictitious)
LEAs can also consider student performance changes from year to year.
We are building state model evaluation indicators into our system. Moving Forward • Best practice surveys (e.g., student survey, climate survey, parent survey, peer survey). • Summary reports (e.g., growth at the school level or multiple teachers at once). • NWEA and SAT growth factors. • And we are providing support and training to schools.
We have launched a social network for Educator Effectiveness.
Users can share knowledge, receive on-line training and contribute to the community themselves.
Now for the Demo! A tool to manage the evaluation process. Demo
